I have lived in Pennsylvania my whole life and the only Auto related thing I know is that Pennsylvania state inspections and emissions tests can be sneaky. Normally the PennDOT mails me a reminder, but this year I have taken the time. One morning I stared at my windshield and realised that I had just a few days to take my car to get my inspection sticker renewed.  

A panic began as I had no idea where to go. My final garage appointment had me waiting more than five hours to have the car merely inspected and then provided me with a long list of questionable repairs that needed to be made to the car in order to pass. This was scam-like. 

However, this time I did my homework. I went through Google reviews, Yelp, even Facebook community groups. Berks Auto Repair was described repeatedly using such words as honest, quick, and no pressure. That was all I wanted to know. 

I phoned them on a Tuesday, and they allocated me a slot on a Friday. They even checked whether I should wait or drop, which was nice. I decided to wait down because a work-from-home schedule makes me a bit flexible. 

The waiting area was clean, comfortable, and quiet with a bunch of magazines and free coffee. However, I was even more touched by the way the employee’s addressed others, including other consumers. It was an easy going joyful yet professional place where there were no grouchy mechanics and loud talking as I have witnessed at various other stores. 

The inspection and emissions test were only about 90 minutes. In the meantime, they provided my car with a complete checkup not only to fulfill an inspection process checklist, but on overall safety. I liked the fact that they were not after up charging me. Indeed, they told me that nothing seemed wrong except for my rear brake pads, which were at approximately 20% wear. Nevertheless, they did not push me to remodel them at once. Rather, they left me a printout stating that in the next 1-2 months, they recommend changing the brakes pads. 

It is a lot of honesty. They went on to my vehicle and gave the new stickers west of their inspections right there. 

I did not hesitate to ask them how much time it would take them to change the brake pads, and what it would cost me. They drew up a clear quotation and stated that I can hire the job latest in 4-6 weeks, should I wish. I liked how they did it, it made me feel that it was my decision, and not a shock request. 

The best part of it is that they saw a small nail that had caused a slow tire leak and plugged it at no cost. I did not even say it was; they merely observed it, as they looked at the tires to see that tread is good and the tires hold pressure. It is that level of care that ensures you stay at the same repair shop in the long run. 

As I drove away, I said to myself, this was the first time I had a state inspection performed and did not feel as though I was being hustled. There was no smoke and mirrors, everything was straight forward. Nothing but good quality service and honest recommendations at fair prices.
