I had just purchased a used 2014 Honda Civic, and though it appeared in good condition, I would like to take the initiative and have the vehicle thoroughly inspected, the oil changed, and perform basic maintenance. Having been warned by my dad many times about the auto shops looking to exploit women or first-time car owner, I was already ready to expect the worst. 

I heard about the Berks Auto Repair and took the word of my friend, so I tried them out. I made an appointment online, very convenient indeed, and received a confirmation and reminder text one day prior. Good sign already! 

As soon as I walked in I knew the difference. The front desk was spotless, neat, get this, with fresh coffee and comfy couches. Not a tacky waiting area with a non-working vending machine. A staff member, Mel, with a lovely smile welcomed me and asked me if it was my first time. She walked me through step by step, the multi-point inspection to the oil change and the fluid top-up. 

I felt totally respected and listened to. 

When the mechanic (I’m pretty sure his name was Sam?) came to give me the run down, he didn’t talk over my head or make me feel stupid. He spoke straight language even took pictures of the air filter and brake pads. He told us what needed it immediately (just the cabin filter and back brake pads) and what could wait (tires in about 6 months). 

This is what I liked best:  

  • Transparency: They took me through all things prior to touching the car.  
  • No hard sell: They were not trying to sell me additional services, and they were welcoming to ask questions.  
  • Affordability: Prices were not less than reasonable, and they gave me a coupon because it was my first time. 

They did everything within less than two hours and when I went to pick up my car, they provided me a full account of what they had worked on and even informed me of the next date of service. And, by the way, they brought me a thank-you card on my dashboard. 

I have since then visited two times; once to have my tires rotated and once to have my car flushed of coolant. Each time, I have been made a priority by the team, not another figure on their board. 

Berks Auto Repair made a worried rookie feel like a successful car owner. Well, I never thought I would ever enjoy the process of going to an auto shop, but I am here. This is where you need to be whether you are new to town, unsure of your car or just want to be treated honestly and kindly.
